#010 Pyromorphite

This specimen features clusters of olive-green pyromorphite crystals beautifully developed on quartz matrix from the historic Kamioka Mine in Gifu, Japan. The contrast between the lustrous hexagonal crystals and sparkling quartz makes this a classic example of Japanese pyromorphite.

Pyromorphite is a secondary lead phosphate mineral recognized for its hexagonal prismatic crystals and colors ranging from yellow and green to brown. It typically forms in the oxidation zones of lead deposits and is commonly associated with quartz, cerussite, galena, and other lead minerals. With a Mohs hardness of 3.5–4 and a resinous to vitreous luster, pyromorphite is highly valued by mineral collectors for its vivid colors and well-formed crystal habits.
